What does Civic Engagement involve?

Civic Engagement fundamentally encompasses the concept of actively participating in the community to drive change and improve societal conditions. This engagement is not limited to any single action or activity but is characterized by a broad involvement in civic life. It can take many forms, including but not limited to community service, advocacy, and organizing to address local issues.

While voting in local elections and discussing political issues are certainly components of civic engagement, they represent only a subset of the broader spectrum of activities involved. Civic engagement is about taking initiative and fostering a sense of community ownership, which includes the desire to make impactful changes that improve the well-being of the community. Developing curricular standards, on the other hand, is more aligned with educational policy and administration than direct community involvement, thus does not capture the essence of civic engagement as effectively as community participation does.
